Elected to Ards Borough Council for Ards West in 2005, Councillor Oswald is the current Mayor of Ards and served as the Deputy Mayor in 2010-11.

A retired manger with 25 years local government experience, Councillor Oswald is a resident of Comber and works in the office of Simon Hamilton MLA dealing with a wide range of constituency issues.

He is a former Chair of the Council's Rates and Audit and Risk Management Committees and is currently leading the Titanic Working Group in establishing and increasing tourist links with the Belfast based Titanic Signature Project and Northern Ireland Tourist Board. He is also a member of the Ards District Policing Partnership

Married to Aileen with three grown up children, he is a member of Second Comber Presbyterian Church where he also coaches and plays table tennis for the church first team.
