Alderman Elliott has been a member of the Council since 2005, having previously served as a councillor between 1981 and 1993. He is the current chairman of the Council Services Committee and is also a member of the Ards District Policing Partnership. He has spent a large part of his working life in farming and the agri-food industry. His interests include motorcycle road racing and rugby. He is also a deacon in the Grace Free Presbyterian Church in Newtownards.
