Awards for Sport - from Sport Northern Ireland

Awards for Sport is a new small grants programme managed by Sport Northern Ireland and aims to:

Increase participation in sport and physical recreation especially
Among under represented groups: and
Increase the number of athletes with improved sporting performances.

It is open to:
Governing Bodies
Sports Clubs
Community and Voluntary organisations

As a result of budget implications the current round of Awards for Sport is limited to equipment applications only. In future rounds it is hoped that funding will be available for revenue programmes. Grants range 1,000 - 10,000. Only one award can be held at any one time. Applications must be submitted by 4pm Wednesday 6th January 2010 and grants must be spent by Wednesday 31st March 2010. The Council will make small awards which offer financial assistance for sporting purposes.

Applicants must be:

  • A resident of the Ards Borough
  • Representing their sport at international level or higher
  • Of amateur status
  • Qualified to represent their country (i.e. Ulster, NI, Ireland or Great Britain) through competition and selected to do so by an apprpriate selection body

In addition the sport must have a governing body which is recognised by the Sports Council of Northern Ireland.

Please note also that participation in the Milk Cup Soccer Tournament qualifies for assistance.

Awards are made as follows:

  • Event within the British Isles: £100
  • Event within mainland Europe: £120
  • Event outside Europe: £150
