PUBLIC HEALTH NUISANCES

Environmental Health Officers may be able to help you, if you have problems or queries with:

  • Defective premises
  • Smoke, dust and fumes
  • Bad smells
  • Drainage complaints including septic tanks
  • Ruinous and dilapidated buildings.

Housing defects or drainage problems may cause a public health nuisance, for example through rising damp, and the Council can serve a public health notice to make sure repair work is carried out. If the landlord of a property refuses to do the work, then he/she may be taken to court.
