Access to Disabled Toilets
Disabled facilities are accessible to Radar keyholders. Radar is the National Key Scheme started 30 years ago when Radar (the Royal Association for Disability Rights) along with other disability organisations, local authorities and the National Key Scheme established the National Key Scheme (NKS), so that public toilets could be locked and kept in good condition. Within the scheme, providers of disabled toilets fit a standard NKS toilet door lock, which can be opened with a Radar NKS key. The Radar National Key Scheme key offers disabled people independent access to the 9,000 accessible locked toilets around the country. Over 25 years the scheme has been adopted by 400+ local authorities and many transport, retail and leisure providers. The key is available to buy from the Radar website and costs £3.50 (excluding VAT) and £4.20 (with VAT). The keys are also available to buy from reception in the Council offices, 2 Church Street, Newtownards.

The Royal Association for Disability Rights (Radar) is the UK's largest disability rights campaigning network. Radar are led by people with lived experience of disability or health conditions and work in partnership with our 800 organisational and individual members to raise issues, share ideas and build networks. They publish guides and resources for disabled people; provide advice to organisations to help them prevent discrimination and build equality and wellbeing throughout their workforce; and provide training programmes to help people progress in their careers and achieve leadership positions.
