ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCHOOLS EDUCATION SERVICE

In February 2008, the Council's Environmental Health Service piloted an education programme aimed at local primary schools.

The Programme offered the following activities:

  • Wash your hands for Key Stages Foundation and 1
  • Cross-contamination for Key Stage 2
  • Where to store food in the fridge for Key Stage 2
  • Home Accident Prevention Puppet Show for Key Stages Foundation and 1

An Environmental Health Officer visited the school and carried out the activity in the class room. Take home resources were provided for each pupil.

15 Primary Schools and over 1,000 children took part in the pilot which received positive feedback. It is hoped to run the programme next year for the full school year allowing teachers to tie in the activities with their teaching plans.

In addition to the activities being offered to Primary Schools, activities are planned for secondary schools. These will be piloted following consultation with the local secondary schools to ensure they meet curriculum requirements.

Download further information on each of the activities currently offered to Primary Schools within the Ards Borough here.

If you require any further information or would like to arrange for an activity to be carried out in your school please contact Sarah Kinnear on 02891 824052.
