CEMETERIES

The Council's Parks and Cemeteries Service is responsible for the maintenance of 14 cemeteries in Ards, where approximately 500 burials take place each year.

The cemeteries which are maintained by the Council are:

Ballytrustan Cemetery (near Portaferry, no longer open for burials)
Ballyvester Cemetery (Donaghadee)
Castlehill Cemetery (between Kircubbin and Portaferry, no longer open for burials)
Comber Cemetery
Greyabbey New Cemetery
Greyabbey Old Cemetery (no longer open for burials)
Kircubbin Cemetery
Kirkistown Cemetery
Movilla Cemetery (Newtownards)
Slanes Cemetery (Cloughey, no longer open for burials)
Templecraney Cemetery (Portaferry, no longer open for burials)
Templepatrick Cemetery (between Millisle and Donaghadee, no longer open for burials)
Tullynakill Cemetery (Comber, near Castle Espie, no longer open for burials)
Whitechurch Cemetery (Ballywalter)

Cemeteries are open from 8.00am until dusk every day.

Reception staff in the main Council offices have access to some burial records and can provide some help with genealogical research.

Burial records are available for the following cemeteries:

Ballyvester Cemetery (from January 1948)
Comber Cemetery (from May 1894)
Greyabbey New Cemetery (from December 1949)
Kircubbin Cemetery (from 1983)
Kirkistown Cemetery (from September 1953)
Movilla Cemetery (from September 1886)
Whitechurch Cemetery (from April 1900)
