| Accessibility: 25th July 2008 TAKE YOUR IPOD FOR AN HISTORICAL WALKVisit our website and you can take your iPod for an historical walk. The Council has become the first in Northern Ireland to offer a range of historical tours as podcasts, meaning it is now possible to download information directly onto an iPod and listen to a guide give directions and take you through the history of an area as you walk. Three walks, two in Portaferry and one from Whitespots Country Park, Newtownards, to Crawfordsburn, are now available as downloads, while for those looking for a more traditional approach a new series of printed guides to historical walks in Newtownards, Comber, Donaghadee and Portaferry, as well as scenic spots around the Ards Peninsula, has also just been produced. "We've developed the guides around some of the most historical buildings and features in the main towns in Ards and by using feedback from our customers on what they would like to know more about," explained ?, ? with the Council. "There's no substitute for a brochure where you can digest the historical information and see pictures of the towns and buildings, but more and more people like to walk with iPods, so, the podcasts are a high-tech addition to the range and will appeal to anyone who likes to walk with the latest technology. This way they can be accompanied by a personal tour guide instead of music. Ultimately, we aim to make all our historical walks available as podcasts". A new general Visitors Guide and Map are also available. Contact Ards Tourist Information Centre on 028 9182 6846 for copies of all the guides or to download a podcast click here.
