The money has been included in the Department for Social Development's (DSD) Public Realm budget for the year 2013-2014 and will be used to create new pavements, street lighting, street furniture and for general landscaping. The Council plans to contribute up to £50,000 towards the scheme and Councillor Philip Smith, Chairman of Comber Town Steering Group, established to revitalise and regenerate the town, said: "Comber will benefit enormously from this investment and it is now up to us, as a Council, together with the Department for Social Development, local businesses and local people, to make a strong business case and ensure that firm plans are in place to take advantage of this funding when it becomes available in 2013". The Council, which last year invested £2M in a complete refurbishment of the town's leisure centre, agreed to support the scheme at its meeting last Wednesday (27th July).
