COUNCIL GARDEN TAKES GOLD AT PRESTIGIOUS SHOW

Ards Borough Council's entry has taken gold in the prestigious Garden Show Ireland at Hillsborough and also been awarded 'best in show' in the large garden category.

Designed by a team from the Council's Parks section, the garden was built around a series of mirrors, with both a formal lawn and wild grasses, water running through it, decking and a seating area, all intended to create a tranquil space for reflection - the garden's name.

The work on the garden and the awards hold special significance for the team, as John McConnell, Parks Operations Manager, explained:

"The garden was dedicated to Bryan Seeds, our Parks and Cemeteries Manager, who lost his battle with illness in September last year and so this was a very important occasion both professionally and personally for all the staff. They put their hearts and souls into the work and there could be no better result, nor tribute to Bryan, than to win a gold award and also be named 'best in show'. I am delighted for the team who did themselves, the Council and the Ards proud, said Mr McConnell".

This was only the second time the Council had entered the competition. Last year the Parks team were awarded a Silver Gilt. Garden Show Ireland took place last weekend in the stunning surroundings of the Walled Garden, Hillsborough Castle, Hillsborough.
