| Accessibility: 17th May 2012 COMBER'S TITANIC CONNECTION MARKED IN FLOWERSComber's connections to the Titanic have been marked in flowers in the town centre. A new planting display, designed by Ards Borough Council to commemorate the centenary of the launch of the famous ship, depicts the ship and spells out the name of Titanic designer, Thomas Andrews, who was from Comber. It was created by the same Council team which recently won a gold award at the prestigious Garden Show Ireland. The flower bed is among a range of initiatives and events, including a specially commissioned play, Titanic trails and tours, which have been organised by the Council and local groups such as Comber Historical Society and Andrews Memorial Primary School, to promote the link between the Andrews family of Comber and the Titanic. "Not only is the planting visually attractive, adding colour to the area, it also helps to raise awareness of the Titanic's Comber connection and contributes to our efforts to ensure the town is prominent in the telling of the Titanic story," said Mayor of Ards, Councillor Mervyn Oswald. The flowerbed is located at Comber Square and will be in bloom until the end of the summer. Content Management with U DO from Libertas Solutions Northern Ireland Web Design |
