The project hopes to develop an Advance Ards network, to create a Social Enterprise Club, to initiate good practice visits for social businesses and to assist specific groups to develop Social Economy projects.

Migrant Worker Project LaunchThe Ards Citizens' Advice Bureau applied for funding for an Information Officer to work specifically with workers in the Ards area who have migrated here from other parts of Europe and beyond. The project aims to help no less than 30 migrant workers per week and to provide no less that 6 "Your Rights" courses within the Borough for this community. This project received funding from the LSP in Ards of £83,550.

CODAG Project PhotoComber Drugs Awareness Group (CODAG) - uses two mobile classrooms and three specially trained educators to deliver health education programmes to primary schools in Ards, North Down and E Belfast

CODAG received a grant of £30,000 to target 4 to 11 year olds in school with a programme delivering information to assist them to choose a healthy lifestyle. The project hopes to carry out no less than 60 school visits within the Ards Borough area.

Donaghadee Sailing Club is situated on Shore Street, Donaghadee and overlooks the harbour. The Clubhouse includes bar, training, changing and showering facilities.

There are current ambitious plan to redevelop and expand the facilities in the next 2 years

The Club applied to the LSP in Ards for fundind of new boats and sailing equipment to increase the membership of the club and to encourage young people to participate in water sports in their local area. The Club received a grant of £25,000 and is currently implementing the RYA "On Board" programme with four local schools.

Contact Youth provides face to face counselling to young people in the 11-25 age range throughout Northern Ireland, in community and post primary school settings, and through our Suicide Prevention 24/7 free telephone counselling service.

Contact Youth received a grant of £35,055 to provide face to face counselling sessions to young people in the Newtownards area with art therapy and groupwork, aswell as recruiting and training volunteers for the Youthline service.

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress in their own homes - so helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Home-Start is available for any family with at least one child under 5 years of age.

The LSP in Ards have granted Home-start £60,000 to enable them to open and staff a Family Support Centre and Second Hand Baby Equipment shop in Newtownards town. The project aims to recruit 12 to 20 volunteers, support 80-100 families and to provide 2 volunteer preparation courses.

Lifestart project photoLifestart Mid-Ards offers a free home based Child Development programme to the parents of birth to five year old child in the Ards Peninsula area.

Lifeststart encourages parents to understand the developmental stages that children go through.

This group was granted £50,000 to create a play facility to be used by no less than 20 parents and children and 15 parents and children to attend the APPLAUD group (Ards Peninsula Learning and Understanding Difficulties Parents Support Group).

The LSP in Ards granted £42870 to Newtownards Sailing Club for their "Sail for All" programme which encourages those not normally able to access sailing to experience the sport. The programme was funded to employ a sailing instructor, to purchase suitable boats and to train 12 groups to be proficient and safe sailors.

PROJECT NAME VISION ARDS

APPLICANT BODY THE BOYS BRIGADE (BELFAST)

Ganaway Activity and Training Centre is a 13 acre site in the quiet countryside between Millisle and Ballywalter in the Ards Peninsula and overlooking the Irish Sea.

Ganaway is owned by the Belfast Battalion of the Boys' Brigade and is available to non-BB youth groups and schools as well as BB units.

In managing the centre the Boys' Brigade seek to provide a neutral and non-threatening environment and to encourage the development of responsible citizenship by facilitating activities to enhance self awareness, self esteem and an awareness of and respect for different cultures and beliefs.

The Boys Brigade received £80,000 to bring no less than 750 additional visitors to the centre by December 2007, to provide single identity involvement for 10 groups in the Ards area and to support and lead 4 cross community programmes by December 2007.
