Being able to swim is a life skill. At Ards Leisure Centre you can learn to swim no matter your age or ability. Our Waves Swim Programme has swimming lessons for babies and pre-school children, children at school and adults of any age. Taking swimming lessons will build your confidence in the water and develop your swimming skills and abilities. Waves Swimming Lessons are all about making progress and the programme includes classes for improving strokes, stamina and learning personal survival techniques.

All our instructors hold A.S.A. or I.A.S.A. Teacher Certificates and follow specific course guidelines to ensure a consistency of high teaching standards.

Swimming Lessons for Pre-School Age Children

Baby Wave - 6 months to 3 years. Babies & parent/carer
Toddler Wave - for 3 to 5 year olds, new to the pool & non-swimmers
Toddler Wave 1 - for 3 to 5 year olds. Non-swimmers
Toddler Wave 2 - for 3 to 5 year olds. Swimmers

Swimming Lessons for School Age Children (5 years & over )

Ripples - non-swimmers, introduction to the pool
Ripples 1 - swimmers, developing Frontcrawl stroke technique
Ripples 2 - swimmers, developing Frontcrawl stroke technique and breathing
Ripples 3 - Swimmers up to 10 metres.
Ripples 4 - Swimmers up to 20 metres.
Ripples 5 - Swimmers to develop for progression to Waves Bronze.
All lessons take place in the Minor Pool

Waves Bronze - includes introduction to Personal Survival Skills
Waves Silver - includes progression of Personal Survival Skills
Waves Gold - includes continues progression of Personal Survival Skills
Junior Lifeguard
Stroke & Stamina Training

All lessons take place in the Gala Pool

Adults 14 years & over - Beginners & Improvers

Kayaking
Introduce yourself to Kayaking with one of our courses.
The course follows the British Canoe Union syllabus teaching basic skills to Advanced Eskimo rolling techniques.
The minimum age is 10 years and pupils must be able to swim and be confident in the water.
The course instructor is Stephen Summerville, SEELB Stage II Instructors Award.

Life Saving courses are also run as part of the programme.

Courses run for 10 weeks, lessons are 30 minutes long (Adults lessons 45 minutes)

A full list of class times is available from the centre 4 weeks before booking opens. Classes run Saturday to Thursday. Priority booking is for pupils on the current course.

Crash Course Swimming Lessons
